Current aid project: Turkey school

    Type of aid:
    Teachers, school supplies
    Aid since:
    2018

Attending a Turkish school is unfortunately not possible for most Syrian children in the unofficial camps around Izmir for various reasons. Therefore, we are very happy that our school project is so well received.

We employ one full-time and one assistant teacher in our school project, both of whom are refugees themselves. They give daily lessons to girls and boys between the ages of 5 – 12, for whom the lessons, in addition to being an inspiring distraction apart from the monotonous life in the camp, are the basis for a better future.

The boys and girls excel at answering the teacher’s questions and demonstrating their writing skills on the whiteboard. The school currently teaches classes 1 and 2 in Arabic reading and writing, mathematics and „life in the camp“ (hygiene, safety, etc.). About twice a month, a child psychologist visits the school to work with children who have been traumatised by war experiences. The school is monitored daily via social media and once a week by a team of volunteers and translators from Avicenna.

The Aurelius Foundation has secured funding for another year with a very generous donation. In cooperation with the Aurelius refugee Initiative e.V., our school was therefore named Aurelius school.

In our blog we keep you up to date about our school project.

All this is only possible with your support. Thank you for your donation!
